Intermec Universal Access Point Setup Print

Here is a basic checklist for setting up an Intermec Universal Access Point (UAP). The menu system changes periodically depending on firmware version but the steps are similar. Refer to the Intermec manual for additional information.

Intermec Universal Access Point Setup Steps
  • Plug power cord into UAP.
  • Plug ethernet cable into UAP.
  • Plug Gray Serial (null-modem) cable into UAP.
  • Plug other end of gray cable into PC.
  • Select (2) Data Stream
  • Start “Terminal” session with these COM settings:
    • Bits per second:     9600
    • Data bits:               8
    • Parity:                    None
    • Stop Bits:               1
    • Flow control:          None
  • After the settings are configured press <ENTER>
  • Default username is “intermec
  • Default password is “intermec
  • Highlight TCP/IP Settings, press <ENTER>.
  • Enter IP address.
  • Enter subnet mask.
  • Enter IP Router (Gateway), if necessary.
  • DHCP Mode should be set to “Use DHCP if Address is Zero”.
  • Press <ESC>to return to Main Menu.
  • Highlight IEEE 802.11b Radio, press <ENTER> .
  • Set SSID to something besides the default of “Intermec”.   Note this value.
  • If using multiple UAPs, set unique Frequency.  Overlapping UAPs should not be set on the same frequency.
  • Highlight Configure Security Settings for this Radio and press <ENTER>.
  • Highlight Enable Static WEP Encryption; set the WEP Transmit Key to 1; enter a unique WEP Key 1. This value must be 5, 13, 16 digits in length. Note this value.
  • Press <ESC> until you to return to Main Menu.
  • Save Configuration.
  • Reboot.
